Attic Kneewall Insulation in Red Bank, NJ

This customer was feeling cold in her bedroom because a  kneewall that borders the attic space was allowing a lot of cold air to move into the room because the wall was not properly air sealed or insulated. A large cavity next to the building support also allowed a lot of cool air to freely move through the attic from below. By insulating the kneewall with 2" reflective radiant barrier foam board, Dr. Energy Saver was able to keep the cold air out of the customer's bedroom. Sealing off the cavity with foam board as well slowed the movement of air through the attic dramatically.

This attic kneewall was leaking a considerable amount of air into this customer's home in Red Bank, NJ due to a lack of insulation.  In order to stop this problem, Dr. Energy Saver sheathed the wall in 2" polyisocyanurate foam board and sealed it with expanding spray foam to create an air-sealed barrier between the attic and the inside of the house.  This fix has left the homeowner feeling more comfortable and happy about saving money on his energy bills for the rest of the time he owns the house.

A homeowner in Red Bank, NJ complained their rooms were uncomfortably hot and too cold. When inspecting their home we found the attic Kneewall had cold air entering through leaky fascia/soffit assemblies or through soffit vents. We also have hot air radiating off the roof making the attic even hotter during the summers.

To solve this issue we spray foam the attics rim joists to eliminate outside air from leaking into the attic. Next our SilverGlo foam insulation is installed under the rafters up the Kneewall and sealed at the seams with our orange ZypFoam sealant. Our SilverGlo foam insulation has graphite infused into the foam, which increases the R-value by 24% compared to regular EPS foam. In addition, our SilverGlo foam insulation has a reflective radiant barrier on both sides to reflect roof heat out during the summer and house heat back in during the winter.

Our customer now enjoys a significantly warmer house in the winter, a cooler house in the hot weather, kneewall storage space and lower fuel/electric bills.

Job Stories From Red Bank, NJ
Super Attic and Kneewalls in Red Bank, NJ

A homeowner in Red Bank, NJ had a bedroom that was too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. They also had other rooms in the house that were uncomfortably cold and drafty or hot depending on the season.

Our team inspected the owner’s attic and found older fiberglass insulation with a complex Kneewall system. The attic Kneewall and other Kneewall that wrapped around two rooms were completely lacking the proper insulation.

We first sealed the rim joists in both Kneewalls by using spray foam to eliminate the outside air from leaking into the rooms or house. Our SilverGlo foam insulation is then installed under the rafters up the Kneewall and sealed at the seams with our orange ZypFoam sealant. The purpose of our SilverGlo foam insulation is to reflect the roofs heat out during the summer and house heat back in during the winter.

After finishing the Kneewalls our team moved back into the main attic area to spray foam the rim joists. Then we installed our Foamax insulation boards on the underside of the roof deck to create a thermal barrier. Using our orange ZypFoam sealant our crew sealed the gaps and seems of the Foamax insulation and air sealed the attic. Finally we dense pack behind the Foamax, blowing-in our TruSoft Cellulose insulation in between the joist bay walls.

Our customer now enjoys a comfortable house and lower fuel/electric bills.
