Fixing Poor Cantilever Insulation in a Sea Girt, NJ Home

In Sea Girt, NJ, a homeowner was dealing with cold floors and an uncomfortably chilly home during the winter. Our inspection revealed that a cantilever in the garage was poorly insulated, allowing cold outside air to seep into the garage and leak through the cantilever. The existing fiberglass insulation was ineffective—simply stuffed in place with the joist bay behind it completely empty. We also found a crawl space behind the cinderblock wall that required proper insulation. To fix the problem, we insulated the cantilever with SilverGlo foam boards and sealed them with foam sealant, while also addressing the crawl space.
