Insulation Services Case Studies: Poorly Insulated Cantilever in West Windsor, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in West Windsor, NJ had a poorly insulated cantilevered floor. This cantilevered floor sticks out past the wall below it allowing air to leak in, creating cold floors above and cold ceilings below. The fiberglass insulation is inadequate, does not fill the bay, and cannot stop air flow.
Solution
To solve the cantilevers poor insulation we opened up the porch’s overhang and took down the soffit boards along the rest of the cantilever. Next a SilverGlo foam block is installed to block the bay. Each of the bays is blocked and our orange ZypFoam sealant is used to air seal the bay. Once each bay is properly blocked and air sealed, we spray foam over the SilverGlo foam block while spray foaming the bottom of the floor decking to properly insulate the cantilever. Finally we reinstalled the soffit board and now the owner has a much more comfortable home.
