A homeowner in Point Pleasant, NJ, scheduled one of our free home evaluations after noticing concerns with their crawlspace. During the inspection, we found a vented crawlspace with standing water and a sump pump that was no longer functioning properly. Standing water and excess moisture in a crawlspace can lead to mold, mildew, insects, and poor indoor air quality. We installed a full crawlspace encapsulation to help keep the area dry, clean, and protected. As part of the project, we sealed the crawlspace vents with rigid foam board, insulated the foundation walls, and spray-foamed the rim joists and sill plates to help reduce outside air infiltration. We also cleaned out the sump pit and installed a sump pump system (SmartSump) with a WaterWatch alarm to alert the homeowner in the event of a plumbing leak or power failure. To finish the encapsulation, we installed a vapor barrier to help maintain a cleaner, drier, and properly insulated crawlspace while protecting the bottom of the home.
