Oceanport, NJ Blower Door Test Reveals Leaky Ductwork & Attic Air Leaks
Challenge
A blower door test helps determine if your home is leaking air and how much conditioned air is escaping. During a free home energy evaluation in Oceanport, NJ, we discovered significant duct leakage in the attic. The supply ducts were leaking conditioned air into the attic, while the return ducts were pulling hot, dusty attic air back into the HVAC system. We also found the attic was not properly air sealed. When combined with inadequate insulation and poor attic ventilation, these issues can contribute to higher energy bills, reduced comfort, uneven temperatures, and poor indoor air quality throughout the home.
Solution
By properly air sealing the attic and encapsulating the ductwork with a radiant barrier, we can help prevent conditioned air from escaping into the attic while reducing unwanted air infiltration into the HVAC system. These improvements help keep conditioned air where it belongs, improve HVAC efficiency, enhance indoor comfort, lower energy bills, and reduce energy waste, resulting in a healthier and more comfortable home.
