Old Fiberglass Insulation
Fiberglass in an open environment like the attic does next to nothing to insulated the attic. Without the attic being air sealed the fiberglass insulation will just have air circulate through or underneath the fiberglass insulation. It's why we see dirt build up on or in the fiberglass.
Looking at this picture we can see how much of a mess the attic is. The attic wood is conditioned or weathered looking and we can see parts of the roof sheathing on the fiberglass insulation due to possible moisture build up.
Flex Ducts & Poor Insulation
We can see in this picture the flex ducts are not properly insulated or encapsulated. Also we have fiberglass insulation blocking the baffle vents. The blocking of the baffle vents could mean the attic isn't properly venting. This could cause future moisture issues or cause dry rot.
Soft Baffle Vent
This picture we show the proper way to ventilate the attic by using soft to ridged baffles. Notice the cellulose insulation is not preventing the airflow where the fiberglass insulation was blocking the vents or airflow of the attic.
Attic Equipment & Ductwork
We replaced the supply trunk; air sealed and encapsulated the ducts using spray foam, used our orange ZypFoam sealant and our SilvrGlo insulation boards. Then we buried the flex trunks using our blown-in TruSoft cellulose insulation.
Flex Zipper Seal
The Flex Zipper Seal is installed and air sealed over the pull down stairs. It stops air leakage and insulates over the stairs. The zipper allows easy access to the attic.
Completed Attic & Decking
The homeowner's attic is properly insulated and air sealed to code. We have the attic equipment and ducts properly to code. Looking in the lower left corner of this picture we can see the Flex Zipper Seal properly installed over the entrance of the attic.
Retaining Wall & TruSoft Cellulose Insulation
Our team creates a retaining wall and barrier to contain our blown-in TruSoft cellulose insulation.
Retaining Walls Air Sealed
Looking at this picture we can see we used our orange ZypFoam sealant to seal the seams of the attic decking and retaining wall.
Poor Chimney Insulation
This chimney is not properly insulated to code! Nothing flammable should be touching or near the chimney.
Attic & Chimney Properly Insulated
This picture we can see the chimney is now up to code and properly insulted. We removed the fiberglass insulation; spray foamed and used metal flashing with fire caulking around the chimney. This attic is now properly insulated and air sealed.
