In Middletown, NJ, a homeowner struggled with an uncomfortable home as their AC constantly ran. The HVAC company inspected the system and confirmed it was functioning properly. The real issue was the attic was extremely hot and humid in the summer. We discovered leaky ducts wasting conditioned air, an unsealed attic floor, and radiant heat from the roof causing the AC to blow warmer air. To improve efficiency, we insulated the ducts with SilverGlo foam boards, a radiant barrier that reflects heat, sealed all leaks to prevent energy loss, and air-sealed the attic floor by filling cracks, gaps, and holes with foam sealant. We then built retaining walls and decking before blowing in TruSoft cellulose insulation to an optimal R-60. With a properly sealed and insulated attic, the homeowner now enjoys greater comfort and lower energy bills.
