Crawl Space Insulation in Toms River, NJ
This customer had several common concerns in his home. A ranch style house build over a crawl space. One concern was cold floors in the winter and the other concern was dust and indoor air quality. He did what many consumers do, he called a heating and air conditioning contractor. There solution was to install a new high efficiency heatpump system, that provided supplemental heat in the winter, filtered the air and killed germs with a UV light. That didn't do what was expected. He still had cold floors! Now he called an insulation company, who said of course your floors are cold you don't have any insulation. They added insulation in the floors and a liner on the crawl space floor. The result was within 2 years of his attempted improvements, The crawl space was wet, smelly and moldy. The indoor air quality got worse. (approx 50% in your living space comes from below) and he still had cold floors! We preformed a whole house evaluation and proposed the following solutions to his problems. #1 Seal all the duct work for his new heatpump system, located in the attic. Leaky ducts in attics and crawls lose massive amounts of energy and bring in contaminated air. #2 Remove all contaminated and organic materials from the crawl space, Treat exisitng organic growth and install a Clean Space Crawl encapsulation system, including a SaniDry air and dehumidification system, a smart drain to detect possible plumbing leaks and install a serviceable entrance. The End result: Customer has warm floors, the crawl space is dry, warm and safe, the indoor air quality was improved.
Attic Insulation in Howell, NJ

A scope of work was developed that met the customer's budget and would accomplish the results they were looking. The pictures show, Insulation deficiencies, leaky recessed lights, uninsulated ductwork, bath fan not vented correctly, chases, drop down cavity and a gas leak. All having a impact on comfort. All these items where properly repaired by our fully trained crew, the job was tested at completion to measure our results and the gas leak was repaired. Results: Reduced excessive air leakage by 73%, bath fan vented properly, ducts repaired and insulated, attic access treated and insulation level increased from an average of R-11 to R-60. This will drastically improve comfort and reduce energy consumption paying for itself over time.
Attic Insulation & Duct Encapsulation in Howell Township, NJ
In Howell Township, NJ, a homeowner faced comfort issues due to inadequate insulation and poorly insulated ducts in their attics. To resolve these issues, our team air sealed the attic using ZypFoam sealant. Additionally, we encapsulated the ducts with SilverGlo insulation panels, effectively reducing radiant heat and improving temperature control. We also secured SilverGlo to the adjoining wall to prevent air leaks and built retaining walls to contain TruSoft cellulose insulation in the attic. Additionally, we installed a catwalk for easy maintenance access. These improvements resulted in a more comfortable and energy-efficient home for the homeowner.
Preventing Attic Moisture Issues with Proper Insulation in Howell Township, NJ
A homeowner in Howell Township, NJ, converted a back room into a computer room, but an attic inspection revealed condensation buildup, causing stains and drip marks on the sheetrock. Gaps in the insulation were trapping pockets of air that fluctuated in temperature depending on the season, leading to condensation when they met cooler surfaces. If left unaddressed, this moisture could create mold and even contribute to roof dry rot under the right conditions. To prevent these issues, we air-sealed the attic and installed cellulose insulation, which helps manage moisture while achieving the recommended R-60 insulation level. As a result, the homeowner now has a properly insulated home that is more energy-efficient, comfortable, and healthier, with improved indoor air quality and reduced risks of long-term damage.
Howell, NJ Home Evaluation Reveals Air Leaks in Attached Garage, Cantilever & Overhang
A homeowner in Howell, NJ, struggled with a second floor that became uncomfortably hot in summer and too cold in winter. During our free home evaluation, we found that the attached garage, front overhang, back cantilever, and rear addition were all letting conditioned air escape and unconditioned air to enter. Air leaks in the attic’s adjoining walls, along with poor insulation in the cantilever and overhang, caused the second floor to overheat and feel stuffy in summer, and left floors cold and drafty in winter. By properly insulating and air sealing these areas, we can eliminate drafts, maintain consistent temperatures year-round, and help reduce energy costs.

Farmingdale, NJ Attic Reveals Hidden Comfort and Energy Efficiency Issues
During one of our free home evaluations in Farmingdale, NJ, we discovered a poorly insulated attic and inadequate air sealing. Free Attic Evaluation Reveals Insulation and Air Leakage Issues in Farmingdale, NJ
During a free home evaluation in Farmingdale, NJ, our team observed inadequate attic insulation, leaky can lights, and an unsealed attic floor. Exposed joists and visible wood indicated insulation levels around R-19—well below New Jersey’s recommended minimum and far from the optimal R-60 level. We also noted air leaks around can lights, trunk connections, and various penetrations. To achieve proper performance, an attic should first be air sealed by closing gaps, top plates, and wire or pipe openings with foam sealant before adding insulation to the recommended R-60. These issues are common in many homes and often lead to discomfort, energy loss, and poor indoor air quality.
AC Always Running? Poor Attic Sealing and Insulation to Blame in Colts Neck, NJ
In Colts Neck, NJ, a homeowner’s attic lacked proper air sealing, allowing cooled air to escape into the attic during the summer. On top of that, the insulation was inadequate and failed to keep conditioned air in the living spaces. As a result, the home was less comfortable and energy bills were higher. Humidity and condensation were also a concern—rusty roof nails showed signs of water droplets forming and dripping onto the attic floor, leaving stain marks on the plywood. By taking care of these issues, you can enjoy a cooler, more efficient, and healthier home this summer.
Crawl Space Issues Causing Cold Floors in Colts Neck, NJ
In Colts Neck, NJ, a homeowner was struggling with cold floors on the first level. During our free home evaluation, we discovered that a previous contractor had encapsulated the crawl space and insulated the walls with foam boards—but they never insulated the rim joists. As a result, cold outside air was still infiltrating through the unsealed rim joists, cooling the floors above. We also found a heating duct leaking significant amounts of warm air into the crawl space, causing moisture buildup and mold growth on the wood. While our inspections are always free to homeowners, it’s our deep understanding of home performance that sets us apart. At Dave Hoh’s Home Comfort & Energy Experts, we’re committed to finding and fixing the real causes behind comfort issues, energy efficiency problems, and indoor air quality concerns—so homeowners experience lasting comfort and peace of mind.
