This very small attic in Bradley Beach, NJ has unfortunately been neglected, lacking proper insulation and air sealing. The attic insulation is practically non-existent, leaving the homeowner uncomfortably hot in summers and cold in winters. First things first, we'll start by air sealing the attic using ZypFoam sealant. Once the attic is properly sealed, we'll proceed to install baffle vents to ensure proper ventilation. Finally, we'll construct wooden retaining walls to contain the TruSoft cellulose insulation that we'll blow in to achieve an R-60 rating. A homeowner in Bradley Beach, NJ had a Cape Cod home with a large kneewall that was being used for storage, but the space was not properly insulated for that purpose. As a result, it was also causing cold, drafty rooms in the winter and hot rooms in the summer. To solve the problem, we created a Super Kneewall system for this large area by installing Foamax boards along the roofline and floor joists, dense-packing cellulose insulation behind the Foamax, and sealing all areas with foam to stop air leaks. We accessed the attic and found fiberglass insulation that was blown-in. Blown-in fiberglass insulation is very porous especially when it is open and exposed. After pulling up the fiberglass insulation we found the attic was not air sealed.

With no insulation in the porch ceiling (or overhang), outside air was leaking in, and costly conditioned air was leaking out. When we opened up the overhang, we found no insulation at all; just empty space allowing year-round discomfort. Our expert team installed SilverGlo foam boards along the overhang walls and carefully sealed all seams and gaps to stop air movement.
