Fixing Poor Cantilever Insulation in a Sea Girt, NJ Home

In Sea Girt, NJ, a homeowner was dealing with cold floors and an uncomfortably chilly home during the winter. Our inspection revealed that a cantilever in the garage was poorly insulated, allowing cold outside air to seep into the garage and leak through the cantilever. The existing fiberglass insulation was ineffective—simply stuffed in place with the joist bay behind it completely empty. We also found a crawl space behind the cinderblock wall that required proper insulation. To fix the problem, we insulated the cantilever with SilverGlo foam boards and sealed them with foam sealant, while also addressing the crawl space. These improvements have made the home noticeably warmer and more comfortable, while helping the homeowner save on energy bills.

Super Attic in Spring Lake, NJ

This home is a 100+ year old house on a slab, with minimal storage space. The customer also had comfort issues, to hot upstairs in the summer.  The before picture shows the attic space used for storage along with the central heating and coolng system in the attic. This is very inefficient space for storage of mechanical systems. It gets up to 140 degrees in the summer. The AFTER pictures shows a completed super attic, where the air and thermal boundry is moved to the roof line, bringing the space inside. Now the attic is always with a few degrees of the conditioned space below and suitable for storage. This solution provides excellent insulation performance and maintains a fully vented roof assembly. Attic SuperDeck for Storage in Spring Lake, NJ

Our customer in Spring Lake, NJ contacted us for their poorly insulated attic. The homeowner’s were experiencing uncomfortable and drafty rooms. A poorly insulated attic floor allows heat from your living space to be lost to the outdoors through the vented attic.

Our complete Attic SuperDeck treatment is an innovative solution that air seals and insulates the top of your home while providing the maximum storage space possible.

Looking at the before picture we can see plywood and wooden planks over the attic floor. If the ceiling joists are not filled with insulation we then use our TruSoft cellulose insulation to fill them in. Next our team installed 4 inch rigid insulation foam boards called SilverGlo. Our SilverGlo is installed across the bulk of the attic floor and sealed to provide an R-41 value of insulated storage decking.

Finally as seen in the after picture we use wood sheets that are installed with special long screws over the SilverGlo to complete this project. The results create a much warmer, more comfortable home, lower fuel and electric bills, home easier to heat and cool, lots of attic storage.

Exposed Rim Joists Causing Cold Floors & Drafty Rooms in Spring Lake, NJ

This homeowner in Spring Lake, New Jersey was experiencing cold floors and drafty rooms on the first floor. After inspecting the basement, we found the rim joists were exposed and not properly insulated. By properly spray foaming the rim joists, we can seal these areas and stop outside air from leaking in through the bottom of the home. When cold air enters through the rim joists, it often leads to cold floors and uncomfortable drafts in the rooms above. Properly sealing and insulating the rim joists helps improve comfort, boost energy efficiency, and lowers energy bills.

Attic Sealed & Insulated for Maximum Comfort & Savings in Spring Lake, NJ

In Spring Lake, NJ, this homeowner’s attic lacked adequate insulation and proper air sealing, while leaky duct connections at the trunk were allowing conditioned air to escape. In summer, expensive cooled air leaked into the attic, and in winter, valuable heat escaped through cracks and gaps—driving up energy bills and causing discomfort year-round. To solve this, we air-sealed the attic, decking, and entrance framing, added weather stripping, and installed a David Lewis Hatch Cover to eliminate leaks at the pull-down stairs. We also sealed the ducts, built wooden retaining walls, and blew in TruSoft cellulose insulation to the optimal R-60 level. The result is a properly insulated and sealed attic that now keeps conditioned air where it belongs, lowering energy costs and delivering greater comfort.
