While inspecting this home in Little Silver, NJ, we discovered that the attic was not properly air-sealed, and the supply and return ducts were leaking conditioned air. Additionally, the existing insulation was inadequate to effectively insulate the attic and the home. To address these issues, we encapsulated and sealed the ducts using SilverGlo foam boards to eliminate air leaks and to protect them from the summer heat. Next, we air-sealed the attic floor and constructed wooden retaining walls to contain blown-in TruSoft cellulose insulation to R-60. We also created catwalks for easy access to the mechanicals. As a result, this homeowner now enjoys a more comfortable home with improved energy efficiency.

This customer was feeling cold in her bedroom because a  kneewall that borders the attic space was allowing a lot of cold air to move into the room because the wall was not properly air sealed or insulated. A large cavity next to the building support also allowed a lot of cool air to freely move through the attic from below. By insulating the kneewall with 2" reflective radiant barrier foam board, Dr. Energy Saver was able to keep the cold air out of the customer's bedroom. Sealing off the cavity with foam board as well slowed the movement of air through the attic dramatically.
